Sporty new coupe joins newly redesigned sedan lineup. introductionthe 2009 ford focus lineup features a sporty new coupe version. This comes on the heels of a reworking of the ford focus lineup for 2008. And all models benefit from the availability of electronic stability control for 2009.  ford reworked the focus for 2008, giving it new styling inside and out, while maintaining the same platform and basic size. Developed with microsoft, sync provides a hands-free link to cell phones and mp3 players through a series of voice commands. It can even read text messages to occupants through the stereo system.  the 2009 ford focus coupe gains a more distinct identity from the sedan with its own front and rear bumper fascias, a dark chrome grille, and fog lights. A roof spoiler and 17-inch dark chrome aluminum wheels come on the focus coupe ses. Focus sedans and coupes with manual transmissions gain a few horsepower (to 143 hp) for 2009; and focus coupe ses automatics get quicker gearing. Yet no loss in fuel economy.  inside, the focus is aesthetically pleasing. It looks better than the pre-2008 model, with nicer graining on the plastics that continue to dominate the cockpit.  we found the focus handles well. We experienced lots of road feel with little body lean in corners while driving an focus ses with its a sportier suspension. That road feel can make the ride a bit harder than some might prefer, but it isn't harsh and we appreciated the handling response.  the focus has decent power for most needs, but passing on a busy two-lane road requires some space. The coupe comes in se and ses trim only. Options for s include sirius satellite radio 195), daytime running lights 40), and an engine block heater 35).  focus se coupe and sedan 16,180) add power windows, locks and heated mirrors; remote keyless entry; sirius satellite radio; and a rear stabilizer bar for more balanced handling. Sedans upgrade to 15-inch aluminum wheels while coupes roll on 205/50r16 tires on 16-inch alloy rims. Se options consist of the driver's group 415) with cruise control, auto-dimming rearview mirror and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with redundant audio and cruise controls; cruise control alone 215); sync in-car communications and entertainment 395); ambient interior lighting 295) that uses led lights to illuminate the front cupholders and front and rear footwells with the driver's choice of seven different colors; power code remote starter 435); and other minor items. Fog lights are standard on the coupe but optional 355) on the sedan.  focus ses coupe and sedan 17,570) come standard with sync and the driver's group, and add bright interior trim and fog lights. The sedan gets 16-inch aluminum wheels while the coupe comes with 215/45r17 tires on 17-inch wheels; 17-inch wheels are optional on the sedan 580). The moon & tune package 795) combines a power glass sunroof with a premium stereo and six-disc cd changer. Leather upholstery with heated front seats are optional 810).  focus sel sedan 17,970) adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, and chrome door handles.  safety features that come standard consist of dual-stage front airbags; torso-protecting, seat-mounted front side airbags; head-protecting side curtain airbags; tire pressure monitor; and latch-style child seat anchors. For 2009, the coupe benefits from further freshening.  the focus front end is dominated by a two-bar version of the three-bar, razor-like grille that first appeared on the fusion. The grille is flanked by headlights that wrap around to the sides and follow the curve of the hood toward the windshield.  the focus sedan features a bright chrome grille, and the air intake below the bumper is divided into three rectangular sections, with space for black-bezeled fog lights at the extreme ends.  for 2009, the coupe gets its own face, with a darker chrome grille and a single, large opening beneath the bumper that narrows slightly toward the top. Fog lights are tunneled directly into the fascia on either side; above them, the fascia is cut away, almost like a step. It's all a bit more interesting to look at but doesn't reduce the bumper's visual mass.  the sedan's sides feature a chromed triangular applique at the back of each front fender that looks like tacked on ornamentation. This piece, which looks like an f on the driver's side, is the starting point for a pair of character lines that flow back. The bottom line leads to the rear wheel well, while the top line rises from front to rear and teams with a high tail to give the focus the appearance of motion.  here, the 2009 coupe drops the bright ornament and allows the character lines to flow more subtly and naturally from behind the curve of the front wheel arch. The 17-inch alloy wheels of the ses feature a dark, turbine-blade look that nicely complements the dark grille.  the rear of the coupe roofline stays almost as high as the sedan's, which makes it look a bit clunky on the se, although this is relieved somewhat by the new roof spoiler on the ses. Both styles look best from the rear, where the simple angular shapes seem to work. The 2009 coupe adds a bit of blackout trim at the bottom center of the bumper fascia, but if anything this only seems to emphasize the bumper's mass. interiorinside the ford focus is an aesthetically pleasing cockpit. The dashboard is dominated by a shiny plastic silver inset that covers the middle of the dash and leads into the center console. This is surrounded by black plastic top and bottom. There are no soft-touch materials here, but the graining looks nicer than it did in the previous-generation model. The center console is deep, though not especially wide.  on top of the dash is a hooded cutout that displays trip computer, radio, and, when ordered, sync information. The instrument panel has two large gauges, the speedometer and tachometer, and two small gauges, the fuel gauge and water temperature gauge. Along the top are buttons for 10 radio station presets. Or simply hit the steering wheel's voice control button and use voice commands. An easy-to-use set of climate controls is located below the stereo and sync controls. We found these buttons easy to identify and reach.  at the base of the center stack is a nice rubberized tray. This area is important because it is where drivers keep phones and ipods when they use the sync system. We found sync to be genuinely useful and fairly easy to use. When an mp3 player is plugged in, sync charges it and has access to the complete playlist. The driver can tell sync to play a specific song, artist, or genre of music from his mp3 player. When a bluetooth-enabled phone is in the car and paired to the system, sync can access its phonebook. It can even play back incoming text messages through the speakers and allow the driver to respond with one of 15 predetermined messages, all while the driver keeps his or her hands on the wheel. Voice commands can be challenging at times, however. And in general, the system is a bit tricky to learn.  the front seats are comfortable, with plenty of head and leg room. Thanks to large mirrors and small rear pillars, the driver's seat affords a good view to all corners. The rear seat has decent room with shorter people up front, but leg room disappears as the seats are moved back for taller front seat occupants. Head room is decent in the sedan, but a bit lacking in the coupe.  the trunk is fairly large at 13. 8 cubic feet. That's as big as or bigger than some midsize cars. The second row seats fold mostly flat to allow loading long, flat packages. This focus, though different in appearance, is basically that same car

This is based on test drives of the g6 gt sedan, gt convertible, and gxp coupe.  the price point makes the pontiac g6 a popular choice as a mid-size sedan and we've found it roomy and plush with excellent overall function. The coupe is comfortable and sporty. A panoramic roof is available on sedans, with panels that slide rearward creating a sunroof large enough for the back seat riders to enjoy an open-air experience.  for 2008, the gtp sedan has been renamed the gxp. It features the same 252-horsepower 3. 6-liter v6 engine with variable valve timing and six-speed automatic transmission. Additions for 2008 include a sport-tuned suspension, modified front and rear fascias, dual chrome exhaust tips and a leather interior.  for 2008, onstar, side airbags and anti-lock brakes are standard equipment on all models. Gt and gxp models come with xm satellite radio and an auxiliary input jack for ipod and other mp3 players. New 18-inch wheels are available for the gt convertible. Standard features on the special value model 18,765) include air conditioning, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, power windows, door locks, andmirrors, stereo with cd player, onstar, and 16-inch wheels with 215/60r16 tires. The base model 20,290) adds cruise control, remote keyless entry and 17-inch wheels with 225/50r17 tires.  the gt sedan 23,100), gt coupe 23,100), and gt convertible 30,210) come with a 3. 5-liter v6 and. Onstar is standard on all models, an excellent safety feature thanks to its ability to summon help. walkaroundthe pontiac g6 models are attractive cars. They have the smooth styling of the latest-generation pontiacs, sharing cues with the solstice roadster and other models and sort of a lexus/toyota look from the rear. The base sedan has almost no decoration and looks relatively dull.  the coupe and convertible inject more excitement into the styling. The frameless windows are indexed, meaning that they automatically open 0. 25 inch when the doors are opened, and close again when the door is closed for a tight seal. From the rear, the coupe and convertible feature narrow taillights and a sloping decklid.  the pontiac g6 is built in michigan, from parts and ideas used on the saab 9-3, opel vectra, and chevrolet malibu. interiorthe pontiac g6 has a nice interior with attractive fabrics and comfortable bucket seats. At first, it has that tank-like pontiac feeling of sitting down low in the cockpit, but that feeling goes away in time, and the g6 becomes a happy, comfortable companion. The cabin is altogether different from the old soft-plastic, fat-knob theme of older pontiacs. It's much more modern, more european.  the sporty front bucket seats are made for body comfort and support in handling maneuvers. We found them very comfortable thanks to thick padding and sufficient bolsters. Power adjustable pedals help drivers of all statures get properly positioned.  rear-seat space benefits from the relatively long wheelbase of 112. 3 inches. In the sedan, a 6-foot, 4-inch passenger can sit behind a 6-foot, 4-inch driver with plenty of room. Those with tall friends may want to remember that the panoramic sunroof is powered by a motor that takes up a big chunk of headroom at the trailing edge of the sedan's headliner.  the coupe's rear seating is a little tighter, and the convertible's tighter still, especially in the shoulder and hip room categories. Instruments and controls are presented in white on black (illuminated in red at night). Every single knob and escutcheon has a chrome ring around it; very tasteful, and nicely presented, with small, conservative graphics on the faces and labels.  the center stack has a red-led readout and control panel that makes it easy to use the sound system's features, as well as to customize the locking, lighting, and other functions. The trip computer and driver information system are likewise intuitive and enjoyable to use.  the audio system works well and the knobs are sized well for operating while driving, a welcome relief from the tiny buttons and knobs on many systems. It's remarkable how easily the panoramic roof works. Easy conversation is possible with it open, even at high road speeds. It's an interesting feature, and we recommend it.  the convertible's top was engineered with karmann and the big top opens and closes within 30 seconds, storing under the truck lid and a hard tonneau cover. We found it works exceptionally well, powering up or down quietly and quickly, with the press of a button. Hold the button down after it's done and the windows will power up or down appropriately.  the convertible's trunk is accessible when the top is down, but space is reduced from tiny (5. 8 cubic feet) to grocery-bag sized (1. 8 cubic feet). We found the sedan, coupe and convertible models reasonably quiet, though a little noise from the powertrain and some road noise slipped in here and there, and there was some wind noise from the sharp-edged mirror bodies.  handling is responsive and fun. The gt suspension strikes a good balance between handling and ride quality. The ride is comfortable and smooth and the car tracks well. Gm has refined this overhead-valve engine and it's relatively smooth and quiet withdecent fuel economy.  the more powerful 3. 6-liter engine that comes in the gxp is an overhead-cam engine with variable-valve timing rated at 252 hp and251 lb.-ft. 2009 saturn aura review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Solid sedan with european roots. introductionthe saturn aura is an excellent choice among midsize sedans. It's modern and fresh, with european character and aesthetic flair. Taut and responsive, it drives like a european family sedan, perhaps because it rides on a german opel platform. The cabin is tastefully done and laid out and all the controls work very well. A range of engines and drivetrains is available for fuel economy or performance.  for 2009, aura emphasizes fuel efficiency. This is a smooth, sophisticated engine that makes the aura a very enjoyable car to drive. Brakes, suspension and powertrain all work together to respond to the driver's wishes. Compared with the cars in its own price class, such as the honda accord, toyota camry and ford fusion, the aura is well equipped with safety and comfort features. All are front-wheel drive. Hybrids with the preferred package can add the premium trim package 990), which includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, leather upholstery and heated front seats. A convenience package for xr 590) adds heated exterior mirrors, remote starter, auto-dimming inside rearview and outside driver's mirror, compass, and universal garage door opener; a similar package for xe 840) adds heated front seats as well. Available on xr and xr v6 is a six-way power passenger seat 400); a 6-cd changer 300); and an advanced audio package 425) comprising an eight-speaker, 240-watt audio system with rear-seat audio controls with two wireless headphones. All models offer a power sunroof with sunshade 800), premium floor mats 80-100), woodgrain interior trim 75), and an engine-block heater 75). The new all season package 290) includes rubber floor mats and molded splash guards, but is not offered on the hybrid. Passive safety features that come standard on all models include front seat belts with pretensioners and load-limiters, dual advanced front air bags, front seat-mounted side-impact air bags (for torso protection in a side impact), and front- and rear-seat curtain air bags (for head protection in a rollover or side impact). The saturn aura shares the same platform as the saab 9-3 and the european-market opel vectra. The aura shares styling cues with the opel. The saturn aura is front-wheel drive and rides on a 112-inch wheelbase.  in front, the aura features a broad grille with a thick chrome insert flanked by almond-shaped, multi-element headlamp units. The nicely sculpted front bumper houses tiny fog lamps on the xr v6. With big engines and front-wheel drive, the aura has a requisitely long nose, but thanks to nice tapering of the bumpers, it doesn't look disproportionately front-heavy.  the body sides are clean and tastefully sculpted, with a healthy bit of chrome detailing on the window trim. The xr takes this a step further with bright door handles. The aura rides on a long wheelbase, which contributes to an elegant, planted appearance. A power moonroof with sun shade is optional.  auras xe models ride on 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. Xr upgrades to 17-inch alloy rims and, for 2009, so does the hybrid. Xr v6 comes with 18-inch alloy wheels.  the rear end is dominated by glitzy, high-mounted tail lamps that mirror the almond shape of the headlamps and incorporate two strips of fast-illuminating led brake lights. Savvy observers can spot a 2009 edition because the model name has moved out of the bright panel at the base of the trunk lid and onto the paintwork just above it. The bright panel itself is gone from the 2009 xr v6, for a cleaner look we like. We're less thrilled with the new hybrid decals at the top of the hybrid model's windshield and rear window. Secondary controls are shared with other gm models.  the front seats offer reasonable support for most people, though we would like to see better lumbar support. We found the fabric upholstery to be of high quality. The quality of the xr's leather seemed marginal, however, with the only exception being the cool-looking moroccan brown option featuring uniquely grained, embossed leather seating inserts. The available eight-way power adjustments for the driver made it easier to get comfortable than in the standard seats. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes, though it feels one size too large for this car. The front-seat elbow rest cleverly extends into the b-pillar for an additional 1. 6 inches of elbow room, to accommodate taller drivers who slide the seat rearward. The cover for the center console slides fore and aft for comfortable elbow resting on the inboard side. Outward vision through the windshield and side windows is good. A trip computer/vehicle information display is nestled in the speedometer, and has a real-time fuel economy function. Therefore, only one function (the trip odometer, standard odometer, fuel economy, the gear indicator for the manual mode for the six-speed automatic, and so on) can be viewed at any given time.  interior trim is mixed in quality but pleasingly designed, with padded materials covering the curvaceous dash top and door panels, but less impressive hard plastic most everywhere else. There are other materials as well, including generous swaths of silvery metallic or wood-grained plastic trim, made more attractive by chrome details in many well-placed locations. We would like to say that these materials are up to snuff compared with toyota, honda and even hyundai, but in truth, they're not quite there. However, the panel fit is tight and among the best we've seen on an american product.  all controls, buttons and knobs feel upscale in their operation. Controls for the standard, six-sp.

(there's a $38,995 executive series that's sold primarily as a fleet car.)  this is an american luxury car with the time-honored formula: rear-wheel drive, v8 engine, smooth, quiet ride, seating for six, a huge trunk, and lots of luxury amenities.  from its complex-reflector headlamps and pursed-lips grille back to its chrome license plate surround and big corner-mounted taillamps, the town car has been redesigned for the 21st century. The package comes with the more powerful 220-horsepower v8 engine with dual exhaust, larger 235/60r16 tires on unique 16-inch alloy wheels, a special torque converter, a 3. 55:1 rear-axle ratio, and revised springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bars. Those suspension bits are designed to provide improved handling and a sporty ride; the higher numerical rear-axle ratio boosts acceleration performance. The smaller analog instrument cluster features a centered speedometer flanked by fuel and temperature gauges.  two small display screens on either side of the speedometer serve as the message center and compass. A new rear pillar design makes the rear seat cozier than the one in the old car. The big, thick seats are comfortable and the power front bucket seats offer lumbar support and two-position memory. The steering wheel contains buttons for cruise control and the sound system.  interior noise has been reduced significantly over the previous model. Rearview mirrors have been designed to generate much less wind noise. Thicker glass, triple seals on the doors, and redesigned pillars all help to further reduce noise. driving impressiontown car owners will notice greatly improved steering and handling response. Ford has redesigned the steering system with more expensive components that yield improved steering precision and feel. The air suspension system boasts new twin-tube shock absorbers. Another more expensive solution is the rear suspension that uses a watts linkage between the axle housing and the frame designed to improve both handling and ride quality. Trailing arms have been redesigned to be parallel to the frame.  all this adds up to a much more pleasant ride. The 1999 town car feels glued to the road in a way that the previous-generation could not match on its best day. Handling is much more predictable in lane-change maneuvers, without the momentary indecisiveness that characterized the old car. Equipped with a 282 cubic-inch engine, it just doesn't accelerate like a $40,000 car should. Its chief competition has 275 horsepower, a palpable difference.  transmission feel and function are greatly improved over the old automatic, with quicker, more positive shifts. The full-time all-speed traction control system can be switched off for climbing out of snow banks or other special situations.  the town car's brakes have been upgraded with bigger, thicker front discs and twin-piston calipers. With 25 percent more swept area, the brakes are much less likely to fade away when hot. Abs is standard. summarythe lincoln town car is an attractive, appealing car, with its huge cabin and trunk. Though it lacks the power of some of its japanese competitors, the powertrain is smooth and refined. The styling is more sensual and modern than any previous town car.
